Venetian Lagoon: the best islands to visit in Spring
Hotel Indigo Venice is located in a strategic position to visit the most beautiful minor islands of the Venetian Lagoon. These islands are a perfect destination to visit in Spring, when the days finally get longer and the mild climate invites you to enjoy a drink and some local tapas (cicheti) along the canals.
In today’s article, we suggest some islands of the Lagoon to visit in Spring, together with some practical information about how to easily reach them from our hotel:
Burano
First stop, we recommend Burano: nobody can resist the charm of its distinctive colorful houses, an icon of the island. And If you love photography, then Burano is the place to be, with its wide palette of colorful houses along alleys and canals.
Burano is also home to the ancient art of lace. Even though it is a tradition anchored to the past, in almost every shop window on the island you can still find original Burano lace. If you’re rather looking for a local culinary specialty, you should try the buranelli: typical sweets, similar to biscuits, flavored with vanilla, rum or lemon.

Murano
The island of Murano is known all over the world for its centuries-old tradition of glass-making and blowing. Get ready for a 360° experience with our Discover Venice Package, which allows you to personally visit a furnace and admire the master glassmakers at work (learn more in the article Murano glass factory tour: a closer look at the art of glass). The package also includes a day ticket for the vaporetto (Venetian public boat): the ideal opportunity to discover other islands in the Lagoon over the same day, such as Burano, which is pretty close.

Venice Lido
It takes only a few minutes by vaporetto to reach the Lido of Venice from Hotel Indigo Venice. A sunny spring day is perfect to have a walk on the beach without the crowds of the summer season. The beach clubs usually open their doors in May. Until then you can enjoy the beach and its quiet. For further information on the Venice Lido you can visit the page dedicated to the destination.

San Giorgio Maggiore
When you’re in Piazza San Marco and turn your gaze towards the Lagoon, you will immediately notice an island, with a church facade and a bell tower: this is San Giorgio Maggiore.
The island is small but hosts an extremely interesting and active space from a cultural point of view: the Giorgio Cini Foundation. Established by Vittorio Cini, in memory of his son Giorgio, the foundation was born with the aim of re-developing the island, severely degraded by almost one hundred and fifty years of military occupation. Thanks to guided tours and various available itineraries, you can visit two marvelous libraries, the cloisters (one of which is by Andrea Palladio), the Borges labyrinth and the Vatican Chapels; ten chapels built as a widespread Vatican Pavilion for the 2018 Architecture Biennale.
