The Venice International Film Festival is one of the three major film festivals, together with Cannes and Berlin. After the Oscar, it is the oldest film event in the world: the first edition dates back to 1932, between 6th and 21st August. Every summer the films in competition are screened at Palazzo del Cinema, which is also a good chance to spot the most famous Hollywood stars on the red carpet. The main prize is the Leon d'Oro (the golden lion), which celebrates the symbol of Venice, the Lion of San Marco.
